According to reports coming from various media outlets, Manchester United have identified Barcelona shot-stopper Marc Andre Ter Stegen as the long-term replacement of Real Madrid bound David De Gea.
Although there are no concrete reports yet about the departure of De Gea to Real Madrid, many around the United camp have reported that they’re bracing themselves for a David De Gea exit in the upcoming summer.
The 25-year-old was very close to joining the Spanish Giants in the last transfer window. However, thanks to a delay in paperwork, his move fell through at the 11th hour.
However, it is reported that the Santiago Bernabeu giants will make a fresh approach for the 25-year-old in the coming summer.
Real currently sit 12-points adrift of Barcelona in La Liga table. Which makes it all the more likely that Real would want to strengthen their team in the upcoming transfer window.
In addition to the interest of Real Madrid that could force De Gea away from the Old Trafford, the inability of the Red Devils to qualify for next season’s UEFA Champions League might also force De Gea to consider his options.
With so many factors suggesting the departure of the Spaniard, Manchester United have already started to make adjustments.
According to reports, they are looking towards German goalkeeper Marc Andre Ter Stegen as the viable candidate to replace De Gea.
Borussia Dortmund are also keeping tabs on the 23-year-old, however, Ter Stegen is not keen to return to Bundesliga.
He spent 3-years in the Bundesliga playing for Borussia Monchengladbach before joining the Catalan Giants in the summer of 2014.
With both age and form under his belt, Ter Stegen is an ideal candidate to replace the 25-year-old David De Gea at Old Trafford next season.
