The
Scary World of Special Effects Colored ContactsEyes may be the window to the soul, but with special effects colored
contact lenses, they can now also say a whole lot more about a person... or alien,
or animal, or whatever else it is you want to be. Special effect lenses, for
those who may not know, work exactly like normal contact lenses except that they
are customized with unique designs, patterns or logos on the outer lens. The images
represented are limited only by the designers' imagination and as a result one
can find virtually anything. Animal and monster-style eyes (double irises, red
veins etc.) are common, as are designs featuring your favorite sports team's logo
or even your country's flag. CIBA Vision's WildEyes range, Cooper Vision's
Crazy Lenses and FX Eyes are just some of the brands available in the marketplace.
Needless to say, given the striking nature of these 'special' lenses, they are
usually only suited for theatre productions or holidays such as Halloween. But
that's not stopping you from wearing them as a practical joke or a friendly scare,
though, now is it? One cautionary note, however, is that despite the frivolity
and sense of novelty associated with special effect lenses, they are still medical
devices and should be treated and cared for as such. They should never be shared
or worn by more than one person (bacteria on the lens can cause infection), and
of course, although they may only be worn on special occasions, users should still
undergo an eye exam to have them properly fitted. Ill-fitting lenses, despite
being uncomfortable, can cause abrasions, irritations and ultimately lead to serious
eye problems. As long as you have the necessary prescription or are absolutely

to scare yourself when you look in the mirror, okay? |
