The More You Know - Ciba Vision O2 Optix Soft Contact Lenses
True to its name, the defining feature of CIBA
Vision's O2 Optix soft contact lenses is oxygen. Or more
specifically, the amount of oxygen they transmit to the eyes; up
to five times more than conventional lenses. Typical contacts make
use of a material known as Hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA), one
of the first to be used in hydrophilic soft contacts. O2 Optix on
the other hand, makes use of a patented substance known as lotrafilcon
B in order to increase the flow of oxygen to the eye and thereby
facilitate a wearing schedule that can range from between six nights
of continuous use to two weeks of daily wear.
Dry, sore eyes are a common complaint amongst contact lens users.
And although factors such as environment and disease influence the
occurrence of this malady, lack of oxygen (because the lens is designed
to cover the eye, after all) is a primary cause of dryness that
can lead to irritation, itchiness or a burning sensation. A multitude
of care products such as eye drops are available to help alleviate
the effects of dry eyes, but as the old saying goes, 'prevention
is better than cure.' It is with that knowledge that CIBAVision
have set out to create O2 Optix lenses. The increased oxygen flow
they offer can greatly contribute to the health and well-being of
your eyes.
In addition to O2 Optix soft contacts, Ciba
Vision sells a host of contact lens and lens care solutions, and
you'll find these and products from a broad spectrum of providers
via the right-hand side links. Yes, those ones. The ones on your
right. No, no, your OTHER right.
