Do Toric Contact Lenses (67% lotrafilcon b) Exist?
The simple answer to the above question is 'No.' At least not
yet. Right now, other alarm bells may have begun ringing in your
head. What is lotrafilcon b? And what does it mean to me? Patience,
dear reader, patience. All your questions pertaining to toric contact
lenses, 67% lotrafilcon b will soon be answered.
Their size and disposable nature belie the fact that soft contact
lenses are highly specialized, technologically remarkable devices.
And although it's easy to be blase about these tiny opthalmics,
when one stops to think about it, they're really quite remarkable
indeed. Lotrafilcon B is one such material and is used in
CIBA Vision's O2Optix range. It is a patented silicone hydrogel
material comprising 67% of the lens (the other 33% is water). What
makes this material so desirable is that it is water permeable and
still facilitates the flow of oxygen to the eye, which in real terms
simply means that more oxygen reaches the eye than is otherwise
possible. This, in turn, allows for healthier, more comfortable
eyes and lenses that can be worn for longer periods of time.
O2Optix Toric lenses,
are not yet available although the company plans to release such
a product in the near future. That being said, astigmatic patients
requiring very specific corrective powers may be suitable for O2Optix
wear (CIBA Visions recommends it for powers up to 1.25D). As is
always the case, it is advisable to contact your optometrist or
other eye care specialist in order to best ascertain what is suitable
for you.
We take eye care very seriously 'round these parts, which is why
if you look to the right of this page you'll find a diverse selection
of toric contact
lenses and lens care products suitable for every budget and
need.
