Rigid Gas Permeable Contact Lenses Cleaner - There's No
Shortcut to Good Eye Health
As any long-time contact user knows, a meticulous cleaning regime
is a vital aspect of wearing contact lenses. Without proper care,
contacts can quickly become irritating, inconvenient, and worst of
all, unhealthy. The very antithesis of what it is they should ideally
be. In this regard, that is, care and maintenance, Rigid
Gas Permeable Contact Lenses (RGP), have a distinct advantage
over the more popular soft lenses. As a result of the materials from
which they are constructed, Rigid Gas Permeable lenses do no attract
protein deposits quite as easily as do soft contacts so a rigid gas
permeable contact lenses cleaner need only remove excess dirt and
possibly miniscule dust particles.
Cleaning solutions are almost as prolific as the range of lenses
they can be used with, so its important to choose one that works
for you and not to change unless first consulting with your eye
care professional. Abruptly switching or mixing cleaners is definitely
not recommended as it could lead to detrimental, even chronic eye
problems. Typically, a cleaning as well as a disinfectant solution
should be used (products are available that perform these two functions
simultaneously) and then depending on the product used, neutralizers
or saline solutions to cleanse and rinse the lenses. The latter
can be used as a storing solution. Additionally, enzymatic solutions
can be used occasionally to properly cleanse Rigid Gas Permeable
lenses.
A Faster, Simpler RGP Contact Cleaner
Cleaning kits are available in one-bottle solutions that 'automate'
many of the more tedious steps in contact lens care, or that at
least make the entire process a little less deliberate. Some brand
name Rigid Gas Permeable contact lens cleaning solutions are CIBA
Vision's AQuify 5 Minute Multi-Purpose care solution and Bausch
& Lomb's Boston Simplus product. One thing to keep in mind
is that while such products make caring for your lenses easier,
by no means should you ever take short-cuts or try to circumvent
steps in your cleaning routine. The end result will only be to your
own detriment.
As you might have come to expect by now, we stock a host of eye
care products that meet the needs of most every contact lens user.
