A World Of Choice - Toric Contact Lenses In Hazel!
Although more specialized than conventional contact lenses,
toric lenses offer
many of the same replacement schedule and cosmetic options as normal
contacts. So, if you've always wanted toric contact lenses in
hazel for instance, or most any other color for that matter, you
most certainly can. But before we delve into the cosmetic side of
toric lenses, here's a brief rundown on what exactly they are and
how they differ from typical prescriptions.
Toric lenses, in so far as the material from which they are constructed,
are exactly like normal RGP (Rigid
Gas Permeable) and soft contact lenses. What distinguishes these
lenses from the aforementioned is that each lens is comprised of
two differing powers in order to compensate for incorrectly refracted
light within the eye. Instead of focusing at a common point on the
retina, astigmatism sufferers have an irregularly shaped cornea
which results in light coming into the eye at two different focal
points and it is this that causes the associated vision problems.
Torics correct this by adjusting the angle of the light to properly
focus on the retina.
Still with us? Good. Now that we've got all the educational stuff
out of the way, it's time to delve into the fun part of contact
lenses, namely, cosmetic color changes.
As is the case with normal contacts, colored
torics are available in three variations:
- Visibility tints. This makes the lens easier to find and/or
work with.
- Enhancement tints/colors. Best suited to people with light
eyes, these lenses enhance (hence the name), the natural color
and beauty of your eyes.
- Opaque. Suitable for wearers with light or dark eyes, opaque
lenses change the color of your eye to whatever new color you
feel suits you best.
Popular cosmetic toric products include the likes of CIBA
Vision's DuraSoft3 OptiFit ColorBlends Toric (try say that three
times fast!) and a host of others. So be sure to ask your local
optometrist or eye specialist about what options are available.
