Myth Busting - Contact Lenses Cannot Get Stuck Behind The Eye

Wearing contact lenses can be a little awkward at first. Most people who decide to take the plunge love them. Unfortunately, some people never get to enjoy the benefits of contact lenses because myths that surround their wear scare them off. One of the most prevalent myths surrounding contact lens wear is that contacts themselves can get stuck behind a wearer's eye.

This particular myth is absolutely false, along with many other myths. Contact lenses cannot get stuck behind an eye because:

  • It is physically impossible for a contact lens to get stuck behind a person's eye.
  • The conjunctiva, a thin membrane, will not allow a lens to get lost behind the eye. The membrane lines the insides of the lids and curls back and covers the whites of the eye. Contact lenses simply cannot pass through this membrane.

Although lenses cannot get stuck behind the eye, it is possible for lenses to slide out of place from time to time. This can be fixed with ease by simply rolling the eye in the direction of the lens and then removing it.

Contact lenses deliver a lot of benefits to their wearers. They include:

  • Vision correction. Lenses can improve vision in many cases to 20/20 or better.
  • Continuous wear. Those who wear glasses often deal with the issues of having to find them, feeling "blind" when they're not on and so on. Thanks to continuous wear lenses, contact lens wearers don't face this issue.
  • Freedom. Contact lenses can provide a level of freedom glasses never can.

Those who could benefit from their use should not be scared off because of myths. There's no reason to fear as "lost" lens. It cannot happen. To learn more about contact lenses, cleaning solutions and other related products, please feel free to look at our selection.
