Debunking The Myths About Contact Lens Pain
It stands to reason that putting something into one's eye on a regular basis would hurt. This is perhaps why the myth about contact lenses actually causing eye pain for their wearers persists so strongly despite millions of users the world over. The reality is contact lenses don't cause pain at all.
While they do take a little getting used to, contact lenses are not directly associated with horrible eye pain. The adjustment period for a new pair of lenses is typically only a few minutes. After that, contact lenses are very hard to notice on the eye at all.
There are some cases where contact lenses are involved with eye pain. These cases however, are not the fault of the lenses. Instead, they occur because of user error. Mostly it's improper handling or maintenance. To avoid any issues with contact lens wear, users should:
- Follow instructions for putting them in. Don't, for example, rinse them off in tap water and then expect contact lenses to feel great in the eyes.
- Do clean them as directed. It is very important that lenses be removed and thoroughly disinfected as directed. Not doing this can lead to eye infections. Unlike lenses themselves, infections can cause very real eye pain.
- Remove them and discard them as directed. If a lens is recommended for daily removal, follow the recommendation. Not doing this can lead to problems, and might even cause eye infection and pain.
Contact lenses in and of themselves do not cause eye pain. Wearers that don't follow instructions for proper care and use just might, however. For more information on vision care products that can help, please feel free to check out our products.
