Contact Lens

Precautions and tips on using your contact lens

Many people will continue to wear a contact lens even if they think there may be a problem. This is not a good idea. If you think there is something wrong with a contact lens, do not wear it and contact an eye doctor.

  • Discomfort while wearing your contact lens

Discomfort is often the first sign that all is not right with a contact lens. A contact lens may cause pain to the wearer, or the contact lens may actually cause distorted vision rather than serving its purpose of providing clear vision. These are signs that there is something wrong with the contact lens, and you should discontinue use of that contact lens immediately.
A contact lens should not be causing you pain.

  • Check any contact lens for damage before use

If there is anything visibly wrong with a contact lens, that is also a problem. If your contact lens has a chip or tear in it, you should not wear it. With soft contact lenses, it is not completely uncommon to have a contact lens with a tear in it. Even if the contact lens is not causing you pain, any contact lens with a chip or tear should not be worn.

The issue with these situations is that if something is wrong with a contact lens, it may be causing damage to your eye. Even if the damage is not immediately apparent, the danger is there if there is a problem with a contact lens. This is why it is vital to stop wearing a damaged or defective lens and contact an eye doctor.
