You only get one pair of eyes - making eye care extremely
important
There are many different components to eye care, but they almost
all begin with regular check-ups with your eye doctor. If you wear
glasses, or particularly contacts, it is important to your eye care
to schedule regular visits (once a year or every other year at most)
to the doctor.
How does visiting the doctor contribute to good eye care? First,
if there is a problem, such as infection of the cornea, your doctor
will be able to identify the signs rather than allowing the infection
to develop, which could cause loss of vision or even blindness.
At regular appointments, the doctor will evaluate whether your prescription
has changed or whether wearing contact lenses has caused any changes
in the cornea. Good eye care depends on having the correct prescription,
and wearing extended wear contacts can cause issues if not properly
monitored by your eye doctor.

Proper Eye Care greatly reduces risk of longterm sight damage.
Since you may not be able to tell if damage is occurring due to
improper lenses, the importance of seeing the doctor for good eye
care increases. If you want to practice proper eye care, you need
to recognize that badly fitted lenses or the incorrect prescription
can actually damage your sight long term.
The doctor can also help you to pursue good eye care by giving
you good advice. Good eye care involves the right prescription but
also may involve choosing the right products. For instance, your
doctor may be able to advise you as to which brands contribute will
help you with your eye care or which type of contacts may be bad
for eye care. For instance, overnight contacts can cause problems
for some people, particularly since they increase the risk of infection.
You may have to make some sacrifices in convenience in order to
provide good eye care for your eyes. However, in the long run, it
is certainly worth it since you will never get another pair.
