Here's good advice on how to properly insert and remove your Contacts Lens

New to wearing contacts? Have no fear. Follow these simple steps and in no time you'll be handling your new contacts like a pro.

How to insert a contacts lens

Before you begin, make sure your hands are clean. Thoroughly wash and dry your hands.

  • Start with your right eye. Open the contacts lens package-or your contacts lens case-and remove the lens. If you need to rinse the lens before you insert it, use sterile saline solution. Don't use tap water. 2. Place the contacts lens on the tip of your forefinger.
  • With the same hand, place your middle finger near your lower eyelashes and gently pull down on the lower eyelid.
  • Use the forefinger or middle finger of the other hand to lift the upper eyelid.
  • Place the lens on the eye.
  • Release your eyelids and blink. Automatically, the lens should center on the cornea.
  • Use the same technique when inserting the lens for your left eye.

If you find this method of insertion difficult, talk to your eyecare professional. There are alternative ways to insert your lenses.

If your vision is blurred, the contacts lens might not be properly centered on your eye. To center the lens, close your eyelid and gently massage the contacts lens into place through your closed eyelids. You also can gently move the lens onto the cornea while the eye is open. Use light finger pressure on the edge of the upper eyelid or lower eyelid and gently guide the lens into place.

  • If the contacts lens is centered, but your vision is still blurred, remove the lens and check for the following:
  • There are cosmetics or oils on the lens.
  • The contacts lens is on the wrong eye.
  • The contacts lens is inside out.

If you find that your vision is still blurred after checking and if necessary, correcting the above problems, remove the lens and call your eyecare professional. Also, always contact your eyecare professional if your contacts lenses cause discomfort.
