CIBA Vision invests in NIGHT & DAY lenses, but is also currently the world's largest producer of cosmetic contact lenses, including colored contact lenses

CIBA Vision, the eye care unit of Novartis AG, the Swiss company with offices and people operating in 140 countries around the world. And they have a listing on the New York Stock Exchange, have recently gambled heavily with their investment in the research and development required to launch its latest innovative and groundbreaking products - NIGHT & DAY and Focus DAILIES.

NIGHT & DAY is a high-oxygen contact lens that CIBA Vision claims can be worn for a continuous period of up to 30 days and nights. Simultaneous with the launch of this new product, the company has also launched Focus DAILIES: a disposable contact lens designed especially for those who have near vision loss exceeding 40.

It's clear that with the launch of these two new product lines the company is hoping for an immediate return on it's publicly announced US$3.75 billion spent on research and development. Currently CIBA Vision has collective sales of approximately US$24.8 billion with revenues of approximately US$5 billion. However, the launch of NIGHT & DAY, in particular, will hopeful help the company to compete in this huge industry with its more well known competitors - Bausch & Lomb and Johnson & Johnson (Acuvue lenses).

Aside from NIGHT & DAY, the company is also currently the world's largest producer of cosmetic contact lenses, including colored contact lenses. The company's current market activity can further be seen in the manner in which it is currently actively marketing its various web-site resources for its customers and eye care professionals to access. In this regard, CIBA Vision must clearly be seen to be the market leader.
