The use of Eye Drops When You Wear Contact Lenses
Our eyes are naturally sensitive and many situations arise that
require us to use eye drops. With the number of brands of eye drops
available, it is so easy for us to run to the store and buy eye
drops. In most cases, this is fine. However, if you wear contact
lenses, you need to take precautions when using eye drops.
When you have an eye examination, your doctor should discuss using
eye drops when you experience dryness while wearing your contacts.
Because some people have allergic reactions to the chemicals in
over-the-counter eye drops, your doctor might prescribe eye drops
for you, or instruct you to use a special brand of eye drops that
you can buy at any grocery store.
Wearing contact lenses predisposes an individual to certain eye
conditions, some no fault of the wearer. If your eyes become dry
or you accidentally sleep in them for an extended period time (and
your lenses are not extended wear) you should use your eye drops
before you attempt to remove the lenses.
For the most part, eye drops can be used for an extended period
of time. However, you shouldn't use eye drops on a daily basis for
longer than a couple of weeks. Of course, if the eye drops do not
solve your problem, you should consult with a doctor. In addition,
unless prescribed for certain conditions, eye drops should be used
to resolve mild eye conditions. If your eyes burn or have a pus-like
discharge, or you experience dizziness, or a high fever, you should
seek medical attention immediately. In these cases, prescription
eye drops may be necessary. Please feel free to browse the menu
on this page when you want to buy them online.
