Focus Toric contact lenses come in a variety of prescriptive strengths

For many years, people who were diagnosed with astigmatism could not benefit from wearing soft contact lenses. Astigmatism results from an oval instead of a round shape to the front of the eye. As a result, the light doesn't focus evenly on the retina and the person has distorted vision. People with astigmatism always had to wear glasses until the advent of the toric lens.

Focus Toric contact lenses are the first soft contact lens designed specifically for people who suffer with astigmatism. They are available in a variety of prescriptive strengths so they can be worn by most people who suffer from astigmatism. Toric contact lenses contain two different powers in order to correct for the problem of astigmatism. As a result, the wearer enjoys crisp acute vision. These contact lenses must be replaced on a monthly basis.

The user must be sure to follow the directions of the eye care provider in caring for the contact lenses. As is true of all soft contact lenses, the Focus Toric contact lenses require regular cleaning. The purpose of the cleaning is to disinfect the contact lenses to protect against eye infections and to remove any protein deposits that form from the normal secretions of the eye. These deposits result in irritation to the eye and the user finds wearing the contact lenses less comfortable when there are protein deposit build ups. There are many different cleaning solutions available for the user to choose from. Using a no rub solution results in minimal handling of the contact lenses and is preferred by many people.

Focus Toric contact lenses are made of 45 percent vifilcon A polymer and 55 percent water. They are packaged in a buffered saline solution.

The contact lenses are manufactured by Ciba Vision Corporation of Duluth, Georgia. They are easy to purchase at optical outlets and on the internet. Due to the variety in packaging and pricing, the buyer should comparison shop for a reliable supplier and a good price.
