Eye drops

Proper eyecare using the eyedrops that are right for you

Dry eyes are a common complaint of many contact lens wearers. Old fashioned eye drops often didn't suffice. But this discomfort is no longer really necessary, considering the medical advances that have been made in the formula's of eye drops like those of CibaVision. Important innovations in eye drops from the science labs are now on the shelves in the shops. Let's take a look at the different eye drops now available

These are the types of the latest eye drops available

  • Hypotonic tear-matched-electrolyte-balance formula. A difficult name for a brand new lubricating eye drop. It is enhanced with a preservative called perborate. This is really a special liquid because on eye contact in time it changes into oxygen and water. An example of these eyedrops are TheraTears Contact Lens Comfort Drops from Advanced Vision Research. It takes one drop on each contact lens before insertion to be comfortable all day.
  • Sodium Hyaluronate eye drops. These are blink activated drops for all kinds of lenses including night and day contacts. During blinking these eye drops will become more spreadable. Now the miracle about this liquid is that it mimics tears. Just like real tear liquid it becomes thinner when you blink and thickens to prevent draining from your eye.
These eye drops also contain perborate, a naturally dissolving preservative.
Sodium Hyaluronate eye drops are produced by Ciba Vision and are called AQuify eye drops.
  • Hydraclear wetting agent. Well I'm sorry but this isn't an eye drop at all. It is a contact lens made from new materials including Hydraclear. This helps preventing red- and dry eyes, it helps to keep your eyes moist. You could callit a contact lens with build in eye drops. These are usually lenses recommended for two-week daily wear.
An example of Hydraclear lenses are Acuvue Advance from Ciba vision.
